A street photography workshop with Meryl Meisler

New York, NY USA

September 14-18, 2022

A five-day street photography workshop in New York City with world-renowned street photographer and educator Meryl Meisler.

DESCRIPTION

This is a five-day workshop designed to build up your street photography confidence and skills while developing a growing body of work in, and about, this great city. It is suitable for beginners and experienced photographers alike,  and anyone who wishes to take their street photography skills to the next level with the guidance of a world-class photographer.

The structure of the workshop is a daily morning class, 9:30 to 12:30 where we will edit and critique the participants' photographs. We will also have an opportunity to review inspirational work by iconic and underknown photographers who documented NYC before us.

Meryl will go out and shoot along with the group in different locations around New York City (but you may also choose to shoot on your own). We will go out to hit the streets and subways every day, at iconic locations such as Times Square, Grand Central, Union Square Park, Washington Square Park, Tompkins Square Park, Chinatown, Bushwick, Flushing, and Coney Island.

Meryl will walk the streets group providing guidance to help you photograph the visual chaos of  New York's daily life. During group feedback sessions, Meryl will review students’ photographs made during the previous day.  Students will learn tools that will help them find their own style and voice. She will discuss making images with strong content and design. At times, she might observe you at work and give instant feedback and suggestions when required. Students will also have a chance to observe Meryl at work and learn some tricks and techniques.
