MSPF Workshops is proud to offer this street photography workshop with acclaimed street photographer and educator, Vineet Vohra, in the most exciting city in the world: New York City. This is an intensive workshop tailor-made for those who have been shooting for years or even just getting intrigued and stepping out to discover the love of street photography, also for those who have one-off winners but wish to train their eye and discover the art of storytelling with a project.

DESCRIPTION

This is a five-day workshop for those who wish to train their eye to find order in chaos on the streets.  This workshop will help ease the anxiety next time you go out to shoot and help you solve the puzzle of composing compelling images in a split second.  Most importantly it will help you "see".​ 

 

This workshop will help ease the anxiety next time you go out to shoot and help solve the puzzle of composing compelling images in a split second and then weaving images together to narrate the essay. Street photography is about that transitory lie that lies behind the truth, it’s a “pause” button in a live movie, and the minute we press the “play” button, every character starts performing again.

 

The course starts with a review of work done over the last year to understand the direction and how to go forward:

a. Assign a theme and how to work on a photo essay

b Understanding the cinematic aspect in photography, and how to make photographs three-dimensional

c. Understanding one's own vision and how to communicate it through images, your photos are You

d. An individual session for portfolio review and get one acquainted with the individual voice

e. Editing of shots, how to know which image works the best out of the moment

f. Understanding the art of sequencing the shots and how one image communicates with the other.

g. The most important is what makes an image into a photograph and how can one single image have multiple interpretations.

h. Introduction to bookmaking and aim to make a zine out of the work.

Each day includes shooting in the streets with Vineet plus theory and feedback sessions in a classroom setting. The workshop will cover most of what you need to know about street photography; the dos and don’ts, different aspects in composition, and common mistakes made while composing.  Other topics might include: understanding layering in photography, fine-tuning your vision, developing your own style, understanding peripheral vision and ways to see and treat light. 

 

Vineet will shoot along with the group in different locations around New York City, but you may also choose to shoot on your own. At times, he might observe you at work and give instant feedback and suggestions when required. Students will also have a chance to observe him at work and learn some tricks and techniques. Students will not only hunt for decisive moments but also get close to people and photograph them. He will help the participants share and select their top images for review and critique and will talk about the art of storytelling.

SCHEDULE: the program starts on Wednesday 14 at 9:30 am and ends on Sunday 18th at 2 pm (subject to change)

                       Daily classroom sessions are 9:30 am to 12:30 pm ( tentative)

                        On Sat June 17th we will attend the Coney Island Mermaid parade so the schedule may be modified)

                       Social daily meals are optional and scheduled as a group.
